Special Events

Special “Totoro” themed events at The Cut Saturday 10th May
Kids Repair Café 10.00-12.00 Free
Reflecting the VE Day commemorations, Halesworth’s popular Repair Café introduces its first ever Kids Repair Café with a “make-do-and-mend” theme!
Besides being able to make their own Totoro 3-D model, kids can bring their broken toys and favourite clothes to mini-workshops to understand more about how to fix them, learn how to string necklaces, , “have a go” on a hand-cranked sewing machine and “special occasions” card-making
2.00pm My Neighbour Totoro screening
The afternoon’s events will be launched by the Mini Mouth Theatre Company performing two short pieces devised by the young people of the company in response to the themes of the film. Halesworth Community Choir will then enchant us with 3 nature-related songs (including one in Japanese about fireflies!) to get us in the mood for My Neighbour Totoro.
My Neighbour Totoro (1988, Studio Ghibli, Dir Hayao Miyazaki) r/t 86’
Whatever your age, indulge yourself in My Neighbour Totoro, a beautiful, classic, Japanese animation from director Hayao Miyazaki at Studio Ghibli, regarded as one of their best productions. Revel in the “cat bus” and share the highs and lows of boisterous sisters Satsuki and Mei as they explore their new (and spooky!) house and surroundings in the countryside, whilst their mother is seriously ill in hospital and their father works long hours. Left to their own devices, nature – in the form of Totoro – comes to the rescue, offering nurture, excitement, and jeopardy for the two girls.
The film has recently been reimagined for theatre and is playing to sold-out theatres in London’s West End – this is your opportunity to be reminded of the delights of the film (and if you are a parent or grandparent, we defy you not to shed a tear or two) from the comfort of our lovely Cut auditorium, close to home!
Specially priced family tickets – £10 for a family of 4, or £3 for single tickets. BOOK TICKETS HERE
Been inspired by the day’s events? Bring the kids along on Sunday 11th at 2.30pm for a free event for families on the Millennium Green, a huge area of nature on our doorstep. The 90 minute afternoon of activities will include story-telling/visualisations in the “Willow Wherry”; time at the “sit spot” to contemplate and engage with nature; pond dipping; willow crafting and an embedding of the themes of My Neighbour Totoro providing inspiration for children going forward. A celebration of some of the amazing community spaces and activities we benefit from here in Halesworth and a better understanding of how we can help support our natural environment. Meet at the White Bridge on the Millennium Green. Children aged under 16 to be accompanied by an adult. Wear appropriate clothing, No booking required. Event finishes at 4pm
The screening is at the heart of a weekend of nature-related activities organised by Halesworth ASH* (Halesworth Area Sustainability Hub)
